Family with father, post mortem

victorian post mortem photography skull illusion pinterest family father coffin

Looking at this post mortem photograph I can’t help but wonder what happened to that family after the father died, given the young age of the children and the lack of welfare support that would have been available.

Photo found on Eve Black’s very excellent ‘Memento Mori – Victorian Death Photos’ pinboard.

I’m going to go with the man being dead :P.

And yes, it is a concern to think what might have happened to the family.

You mean this isn’t a “dead or not” #disappointed. I had my money on the baby!

They’ll have been ok – they’ll have sent the lad out to work in a bank, the daughter would have sold flower down the market and the baby would have gone up a chimney or something. All whilst mum would have been at home fretting about her children going out to work to support the family instead of her.

i have seen this photo before. it stated that the mother shot the father , killed the baby then killed herself. very sad, bless them.
